La nigelle, Nigella sativa, également connue en France sous le nom de cumin noir, est une plante herbacée annuelle de la famille des Renonculacées originaire d’Europe méridionale,
d’Asie Mineure et centrale et d’Afrique du nord.
La nigelle est une plante de grande notoriété, surtout à l’échelle du monde Arabe, où elle est souvent mentionnée comme étant une panacée. On pense également qu’elle a joué un rôle important dans les coutumes de l’Égypte ancienne puisqu’on a retrouvé des graines de nigelle dans la tombe de Toutankhamon, pratique utilisée en général pour aider le roi dans l’au-delà.
