Description
Le nopal, Opuntia ficus indica, plus communément appelé « figuier de Barbarie », est un cactus de la famille des Cactacées originaire du Mexique. Après avoir été découvert au 16ème siècle par les conquistadors espagnols, le nopal a été implanté en Europe, sur le pourtour méditerranéen. On le retrouve également en Afrique du Sud, sur l’île de la Réunion, ou encore en Inde et en Australie.
Cultivé principalement pour la production de ses fruits, le nopal est naturellement riche en vitamine C. Il sert également de colorant naturel. De plus, au Mexique, il est très utilisé dans la pratique traditionnelle où la feuille, réduite en poudre, est utilisée pour limiter l’absorption des graisses.
Le nopal est riche en fibres qui ont la capacité de se lier dans l’estomac à une partie des graisses alimentaires ingérées durant le repas, et ainsi de les capturer. L’ensemble est ensuite éliminé par les voies naturelles. Par cette propriété lipophile, il favorise l’amincissement.
